NC Woods Fire

Bud Plyler Rd (Crowburk Rd in SC)

High Point Fire along with Stack Road Fire responded to assist Lanes Creek Fire Department with a large woods fire threatening nearby structures. Upon arrival, the incident commander assigned High Point firefighters to tackle the left flank of the blaze and advance towards its head. Due to the dense vegetation, traditional brush trucks were ineffective; therefore, firefighters advanced a total of 800 feet of hose from multiple apparatus into the woods to battle the fire directly.

In addition to hose lines, firefighters utilized water can extinguishers, hand tools, and leaf blowers in their efforts to suppress the flames. A dozer was deployed to create a fire break, aiding in containment.

The fire originated from wind-blown embers from a land clearing burn pile. Once the woods fire was extinguished, attention turned to the burn pile. An excavator was used to dismantle the pile, while High Point Engine 11 and Stack Road Engine 142 employed their deck guns, supplied by a tanker truck water shuttle, to thoroughly extinguish the remaining embers.

All operations were concluded, and firefighters cleared the scene by 9:15 PM. After returning to the stations, a two-hour process of cleaning and repacking hose, recharging extinguishers, and servicing equipment was conducted to ensure readiness for future emergencies.
