The volunteers of High Point Fire District and Pageland Rescue, along with Lifeguard EMS responded to a reported multi-vehicle accident at the intersection of 601 North and Dove Sutton Road. Upon arrival, personnel discovered a crash involving two trucks and a passenger car, with one driver trapped inside the vehicle.
The scene was hazardous, as all three vehicles were leaking fluids, contaminating the roadway and the entrance to the Loves Truck Stop. The wreckage obstructed all northbound lanes of Highway 601.
Pageland Rescue 1 commenced extrication operations utilizing the “Jaws of Life” to free the trapped driver. High Point Engines 51 and 11 established blocking positions to secure the scene and protect both rescuers and patients. Firefighters used oil dry to manage the significant fluid leak to ensure the safety of the area and prevent contamination of the storm drains. All available oil dry was used, with additional supplies requested from the High Point Fire main station.
Engine 51 was repositioned to set up traffic cones, effectively closing the entrance to the Loves truck stop and redirecting northbound traffic into the southbound turning lane. Concurrently, Engine 11 managed the rerouting of southbound traffic into the outside lane. This arrangement created a safe operational zone for emergency personnel to treat patients and mitigate fluid spills while maintaining traffic flow.
Lifeguard EMS and Pageland Rescue ambulances transported injured individuals to local hospitals. High Point firefighters continued to manage the scene until after midnight, overseeing traffic control to facilitate tow operators in clearing wreckage from the roadway. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is conducting an investigation into the incident.
